Q: Why Do Some People Reject Christ?
A: We can understand why there are some that reject God in the flesh by looking at what happened 2,000 years ago. The Pharisees rejected Jesus for two main reasons: they didn’t believe in Bible prophecy; and they only focused on Jesus’ physical appearance. As a result, they failed to receive Christ and crucified Him.
The Pharisees and Bible Prophecy
Outwardly, the Pharisees claimed to believe in God. They knew the Old Testament by heart. So why couldn’t they recognize that Jesus was the One that fulfilled those prophecies? Because they didn’t actually believe them. They only believed in the god in their minds. Their lack of genuine belief in the prophecies led them to reject Jesus when He didn’t align with their expectations.
Jesus' Lifestyle and His Surroundings
“When Jesus had finished speaking, a Pharisee invited him to eat with him; so he went in and reclined at the table. But the Pharisee was surprised when he noticed that Jesus did not first wash before the meal.”
Luke 11:37–38
“‘Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?’ And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.’”
Matthew 13:55–57
“They said, ‘Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, “I came down from heaven”?’”
John 6:42
“They replied, ‘Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.’”
John 7:52
The Bible already explains that there will be people who stumble and fall for the same reasons (Isa 53:2). God came to Earth in the flesh to save us. But if we only focus on physical characteristics, there’s no way we can recognize the Savior. The method for us to recognize Christ is through Bible prophecy.
The Bible explains that God will come again to restore the truth that was destroyed (Heb 9:28; Lk 18:8; Da 7:22). The Bible also describes where, when, and how God will come. It’s up to us to not only study the prophecies but believe them from the heart.
