About the Soul

The Origin of Our Soul

People have always wondered about the soul—where it comes from, what it’s for, and where it goes. The Bible tells us we’re made up of both body and soul (Gen 2:7). When our soul leaves our body, it goes back to where it originated—heaven (Ecc 12:7). This suggests that before living on Earth, we were spiritual beings in a spiritual world. King Solomon (Pr 8:22–26), Job (Job 38:1–4), and the forefathers of faith (Heb 11:13–16) knew this and shared their experiences to help believers understand life and what comes after. To grasp why we’re on Earth and why we’re separated from our previous life, God explains:

“It’s your sins that have cut you off from God.”

Because of our sins, we’ve become separated from God and are now on Earth.

“‘Your heart became proud ... and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth.’”

To save us from our sins, the Savior came in the flesh, offering salvation through the New Covenant Passover, paving the way back to Heaven.

“The Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.”

Jesus Christ came to Earth to teach us about our spirit and answer the questions in our hearts about where we came from. We invite you to join us for a Bible study and learn more in-depth about the origin of your spirit through God’s words.
