Second Coming Christ and Last Judgment

Jesus’ Second Coming and Judgment Day

Most Christians think that Christ’s second coming and the Last Judgment are the same thing. However, when we compare their descriptions, it’s clear they take place at different times.

“‘See, the LORD is coming with fire, and his chariots are like a whirlwind; he will bring down his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. For with fire and with his sword the LORD will execute judgment on all people, and many will be those slain by the LORD.’”

Isaiah 66:15–16

“‘... they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.’”

The appearance and purpose of Christ’s second coming and the Last Judgement are described extremely differently—they are as different as clouds and fire. Jesus Himself confirms that His second coming takes place before the Judgment Day.

“‘At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.’”

When Christ comes a second time on a cloud, He explains that the day of redemption—the day to go to heaven—is not taking place eminently but will occur at a later time. Therefore, we must receive Christ coming on a cloud in the last days before Judgement Day takes place. But will Christ come on a literal cloud?
