On Sunday, December 1, 2024, 25 ASEZ WAO volunteers gathered at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., for a river cleanup as part of the Blue Ocean Campaign. Their mission was to reduce pollution, protect marine ecosystems, and restore the natural beauty of the area.
The cleanup was a vital step in addressing the growing environmental challenges facing the planet. Volunteers worked together to remove bottles, wrappers, foam, fabrics, and other debris. By removing harmful waste, they helped ensure that local wildlife would no longer be affected and that pollution would not flow into larger bodies of water.
According to the United Nations, around 8 million metric tons of plastic waste enter the ocean each year, severely affecting marine life and disrupting ecosystems. This pollution causes long-term environmental damage that affects us all.

Protecting Marine Environments Together
The Blue Ocean Campaign, led by ASEZ WAO, encourages people to take action in protecting marine environments. Each cleanup serves as a reminder that even small, collective efforts can make a big difference in the fight against pollution. The volunteers’ work at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling is one example of how communities can come together to address environmental challenges.
ASEZ WAO continues to inspire others to join the effort to protect the planet. By focusing on environmental preservation, volunteers aim to create a sustainable future where people work together to care for the Earth. Through campaigns like Blue Ocean, ASEZ WAO shows that everyone can contribute to a cleaner, healthier world.
